Astronoomid näevad läbi teleskoopide universumi struktuuri -
see on justkui ämblikuvõrk. Limaseente teadlased näevad läbi
mikroskoopide pisikeste organismide moodustatud sarnaseid
mustreid. Püüdes avastada asjade olemust, näitavad nad mõlemad
uudishimu kaunidust.
Astronomers look through telescopes and see that the universe has
a structure — it’s shaped like a web. Slime mold researchers look
through microscopes and see that the tiny organisms form similar
patterns. In their quest of discovering the nature of things, they
both show the beauty of curiosity.

Film kujutab aastat metsiku ja vaba saksa naise Hilda Ha elust.
Ta ei vehi plakatitega “Friday For Future” kliima protestidel. Ta
päästab planeeti vaikselt, elades koos aastase lapsega off-grid
elu ilma vee ja elektrita, iseehitatud väikeses majas Lõuna-Eestis.
The film portrays one year in the life of Hilda Ha, a wild and free
German woman. She is not the kind of person to stand with a big
poster at a Friday For Future demonstration. Instead she saves
the planet in a quiet way, living off-grid with her one-year old
child in Southern Estonia in a self-built tiny house with no water
or electricity.

anna elanik oma kätega kokku klopsib. Algselt oli karakat mõeldud

talvel püügikohta sõitmiseks, tänaseks on sellest saanud ainu-
laadne “jäätakso”.

A karakat is an unsinkable vehicle that every self-respecting resi-
dent of the Peipus shore assembles with his own hands. Originally

intended to drive the owner to a fishing spot in the winter, today the
karakat has become a unique “ice-taxi.”

A dreamlike passage through the architecture of shapes created
from light and shadow. This film is a cinematographic attempt to
find an invisible city that exists in parallel to Tartu.

Minategelane vaatab tudengipõlves Emir Kusturica filmi “Must kass,
valge kass”, mis räägib balkani pöörasest elust. Ta taipab korraga,
et on seda kõike oma lapsepõlve Võrumaal juba näinud - siga sööb
Sierrat, rääkiv suusamüts ja vanaema eetrilõhnaline rohukapp,
tekitab loovusest plahvatava olukorra.
As a student, the protagonist watches Emir Kusturica’s film “Black
cat, white cat”, about the wacky life of the Balkans, and suddenly
realizes that he has already seen all this in his childhood in Võrumaa.

Piirissaar on tilluke Eestile kuuluv saar Peipsi järves, otse Venemaa

piiril. Ligi 300 aastat tagasi asusid siia vene vanausulised, kes põ-
genesid õigeusu kiriku reformide ja tsaaririigi halastamatu tagaki-
usamise eest. Nagu lained on saarekest üha väiksemaks uhunud,

on ka siinne kogukond ajapikku kokku kuivanud, jõudes vältimatult
ees terendava väljasuremise äärele.

Piirissaar is a tiny Estonian island in Lake Peipus, on the very bor-
der of Russia. The Russian Old Believers who inhabited the island

appeared here 300 years ago, during the Great Northern War, flee-
ing from the religious reforms in the Orthodox Church and to avoid

being mobilized in the Russian army. As the waves have washed
the island smaller and smaller, the community here has also fused
over time, inevitably reaching the brink of extinction.

Vanavanaema isa, kes oli Petseri aselinnapea, tapeti bolševike
poolt, kuna ta oli keeldunud revolutsionääridele andmast linnas
asuva kloostri võtmeid. Eesti Vabadussõja soomusrongid jõuavad
paar kuud hiljem Petserisse ja linn vabastatakse. Ühel soomusrongi

sõduril, Taani vabatahtlikul, on kaasas filmikaamera ning ta jääd-
vustab vanimad filmikaadrid Petserist. Kuskil seal hüpleval filmilindil

on ka režissöör Ülo vanavanaema.
Sewing Machine is a film about the town of Pechory (Petseri) and
its people, told through the life story of my great-grandmother. My
great-grandmother’s father, who was the deputy mayor of Pechory,
was killed by the Bolsheviks because he refused to give the keys
to the town monastery to the revolutionaries. A few months later,
the armored trains of the Estonian War of Independence reached
Pechory, and the town was liberated. One of the soldiers of the
armored train, a Danish volunteer, had a film camera with him, and
he recorded the oldest film footage of Pechory, and somewhere on
that film is also my great-grandmother.

vaatleb linna ja inimesi, kõrvutades meid ühiskonna osana ning
üksikute, identiteeti otsivate isikutena.
The House portrays the residents of an apartment building,
observed through its architecture. It observes the city, the human
and its conditions, exploring the contrast between us as part of a
society and us as singular, identity-seeking individuals.
